WaterCAN alongside Water Research Commission, Department of Water and Sanitation, South African National Biodiversity Institute, and UNICEF will be hosting an online Water Symposium hosted by our very own Dr Ferrial Adam.
The main aim of the water symposium is to explore ways to strengthen citizen science across the SADC region and to establish a Southern African Society for Citizen Science with a focus on water resources management.
Citizen science is about ordinary people using science, whether as volunteers gathering data or as a partnership between community and scientists to act on issues of concern, especially on environmental issues. Citizen science has been described as a way to empower communities to gain greater control over their lives, health and environment and to take action.
WaterCAN operates a lot in this space through our water testing initiatives including our water testing week which we have just completed. Therefor it is only natural that we join forces with other water institutions to raise awareness about Citizen Science and explore solutions in this sphere.
If this interests you, please join us on the 21st of September for this online event.
